Anita Mui's Farewell Concert 2003

I have no idea why but I suddenly had this urge to look for Anita's last concert performance, where she wore a wedding dress. I've never watched this so this was my first time actually hearing what she said during this last performance. It made me think how quickly we assume how our future will be and take for granted that we have all the time in the world.

While watching this video of the duet with Jacky Cheung, tears flowed when I was following the lyrics. No idea why I'm being so sentimental. Cari pasal watch something that made myself cry.

Oooo~ and then I saw that Eason Chan was a guest at the concert too! I figured he was kinda new then? But Anita mentioned that he has a great voice which he must know how to put into good use. Given time, we will see what a great singer he will become. How right she was.

Her last song. What was it like for her fans to be there, listening to this last song, knowing, it's their idol's last song, ever?

Glee: Defying Gravity

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes: and leap!

It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I am defying gravity
And you wont bring me down!

I'm through accepting limits
''cause someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!
Too long I've been afraid of
Losing love I guess I've lost
Well, if that's love
It comes at much too high a cost!

It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I am defying gravity
And you wont bring me down!

The whole world's crazy over this series and yet I've only truly experienced its charms the day before yesterday. The series's only until episode 13, the rest will resume come April. I've a feeling I am going to finish the first half of the season very soon with eyes glued to my iPod (hurr.. what radio ad research?).

Anyway, this song is a diva-off between Rachel and Kurt, an audition to determine who will win the solo performance for it. The song 'Defying Gravity' is so far, my favourite piece from the whole series (i'm in episode 9 now).

I am so totally in love with the show. Not too late right? =D

Time Flies by Eason Chan

This image scares me (i see similarity between this and the jackal ghost in the movie 'thirteen ghost'). It might be an indication to a rather beyond the norm album. I do admire him doing something different all the time though. Awesome. I will be looking forward to getting this CD in April. Moolah's only in by then. At the mean time, if you're interested, do check out the MVs in this album. (as far as i know, there's only ONE eason fan out there that snoops in my blog. heh.)

Mr.

Introducing an up-and-coming Hong Kong rock band, Mr.!

You can all google about this band's basic information if you want, but my post is in relation to my favourite singer of all time, Eason Chan! *surprise!*

The guy in the centre is Alan Po, the vocalist. All along, his voice has been said to resemble Eason Chan's a lot. And truth be told, it does. Very much. Despite the resemblance, or rather because of it, I came to take notice of this band. Usually when an upcoming artist is said to resemble a very established singer, that artist will either sink or rise very quickly, depending on how he acted upon it. This band took the comment in their stride and came up with the song, "If I am Eason Chan" which propelled them into higher fame. The song is actually a tribute to Eason Chan for being an inspiration to a lot of people.

This was a very good tactic. It made me admire the band for their humility. The song was a very good teaser in introducing people to their music. People who are curious about them because of all this hype, will be attracted when they see there's actually talent in them.

When he first debut, Eason's style was said to resemble Jacky Cheung as well. As time goes by, Eason did very well to prove himself unique and has established his own signature style in terms of very strong vocals and quirky personality. No matter how much Alan Po resemble him, he will only ever be someone who can mimic Eason Chan very well. Eason Chan after all, did come first.

Repeat(*)*

I have fallen in love all over again with Eason Chan. Here, he sang Joey's song. It sounded so sad, especially in the chorus. Thus it inspired this little snippet of pain and hurt below (Rui, don't over react, these are just words):

"I can't smile anymore, for I think only of you. Even if I forced myself to, it wavered through my tears.

I have no expectations, only dreams.
I didn't dare hope my dreams will come true, only allow me to continue owning them.
You made no promises, so how could you break a thousand?
There were no attachments, so what was it that got disconnected?

So painful. So very painful yet it is only a pinch compared to the wrenching pain it could have been.

I didn't know I was only dreaming it all, until the day I open my eyes, and woke up. Finally."

I will be going back to Penang for good tomorrow. Hand in the report and that's it. No more living just for the moment. Every step must be calculated. Every second fully utilised. I want my three months break to mean something, and not to be just squandered off, again.

It ends tomorrow. Let it pass soon, so I can stop hoping.

This was the best song out of the dance medley. Sung by his incomparable vocals, under such an intense atmosphere, this was, without a doubt, the best song of the night. Well, to me, at least. =D Click on the title to try and see what's so great about this song!

Like, the BEST Ever!

It rained in the afternoon. I was hoping that the sky would pour away, so that it would be clear at night for the concert. On the day itself, Sunday, went over to Kelly's place to put our stuff. It was great seeing her for the first time in ages! The plan was to go for lunch with some friends, head early to the entrance to get a good position then back to Kelly's place for a stayover. Overall, everything worked out incredibly well.

We were at the Sunway Lagoon entrance at about 5.30 p.m. I even told Anonymous, come on, don't be silly. Why wait for so long, when the concert was only going to start at 8p.m.? Thanks to his/her perseverance on not leaving the spot, we managed to be at the front of the pack.

Look at the picture below. The line was already beginning to get long even before six.

Due to reasons of his/her own, Anonymous barred me from mentioning his/her presence at the concert. For those of you who knew whom he/she was, please refrained from saying out loud. Buhaha~ Anonymous with his/her ticket.

One thing that truly surprised us was how punctual the audiences were. It was the first concert that I have been to that started right on time, at 8p.m. Look at the crowd. So full even before time.

Myself and Anonymous. Hehe~ With the dumb caricature covering Anonymous' face, for once someone looked stupider than I did.

Lucky for us, we managed to secure this bump on the floor to stand on. Gave us the extra two inches to see Eason better!

The ticket we bought was RM298. But I bought it on the day of the autograph session, so I got 10% off. An awesome deal of RM 270 and we were only several feet away from the stage! I was so happy when I saw the short distance. Immediately, I wanted to stand by the grill, directly below the stage. But Anonymous beckoned me to the back, saying we could get a better view of the overall performance than we could so near the stage. At that time, it seemed like a fine idea. But by the end of the concert, I sorta regretted not standing at the front. The back was alright, but it would have been grand to feel what standing in the first row was like.

Waited until the sun set...

When we were at the entrance, we saw this banner that said there's an even more expensive ticket, VVIP, selling at RM398. At that moment, we thought to ourselves, if we knew, we would have considered buying the more expensive one to get a better view.

Check out the picture below. This is the distance between RM298 and RM198.

Since the ticket we bought was already right in front, where the heck could the VVIPs be seated? Apparently, there's this stand that surrounded the Surf Beach. VVIPs were seated there, to get a higher view on the concert as well as being served food. Dank! Luckily we didn't get the VVIP tickets. What's the whole point of going to a concert if you're gonna sit so darn far away, chewing on fried chicken, and losing the freedom to move around??

.

This was the huge distance between RM298 and RM398.

Just let me say this: THIS WAS THE BEST EASON'S CONCERT EVER!!!!

All tickets are Rock Zone area, except for the VVIPs. Therefore, the sole purpose of the whole freakin' concert is to rock the night away!

During Stage 9, the last concert in KL last year, he did several fast numbers while showing off his dance moves. It was apparent then that he didn't have the stamina to dance and sing back-to-back at the same time. Even till now, I remembered him panting into his microphone. But after a whole year of tours around the world, he seemed to have built up a strong stamina as well as smoother dance moves. It was exhilarating seeing him so near! SO NEAR! I saw every moves and his every expressions, LIVE! For once, I didn't have to rely on those big screens at the side to see what's happening on the stage!

Another factor that contributed to the atmosphere was us, standing amidst some local Eason fan club members. Those people really knew how to enjoy themselves. They knew the lyrics to every song and were not afraid to move to the music. Standing among them, it pushed the excitement to a whole new level. I especially loved, loved, the dance medley. It was a medley of all his fast tracks, including my fav fast track, 'Live Concert Gig', as well as a compilation of other fast classics by veterans like Leslie Cheung, Alan Tam, etc. I have heard of those medley before, though I didn't know the lyrics, that didn't stop me from singing gibberish at the top of my lungs!

I was expecting more costumes this time around. In reality, there was only one costume that he wore, and it was this polka dot shirt right at the beginning. From then on towards the end, it was just T-shirts and track pants. Forget about all those frills. Eason is one singer that if he were to just stand alone on the stage with only a mic, I would have still pay so much to see him.

It was a night of pure Eason Chan. With his great canto classics, several Mandarin songs that I had no idea what they were doing in the line up, some new songs from his H3M album that I loved, Eason's usual hilarious banter with the crowd and the crowd's pure undulated love for everything Eason Chan.

The night would have been perfect if only I brought my SLR. I didn't. The last time I did, the camera was rendered useless by the distance and poor lighting. This last picture was the best I could do with my cheap-a** camera phone.

Eason Chan's Moving On Stage 26. Seriously the BEST ever.

The Finale Concert

He's coming! He's coming! I AM GOING!!

Okay, all dramatics aside, EASON CHAN is coming to Malaysia for a second time for his 'Eason Chan Moving on Stage 26' concert! It's going to be a finale stop to his world tour. I got the tickets! Got them immediately when I went to his autograph session the other time.

All rock zone, people! No sitting, all standing. That means we will have to get to the place earlier to queue up for good standing position. This will be my third Eason Chan concert. I have my expectations, but Eason has never failed to deliver.

This is an excerpt from an article on an interview he made about this concert:

"演唱會時間短了點,平時是2小時15分左右,唉……但(大馬)最后一站了,難免會唱久一點的……如果過分少少,也不會過分吧?哈!"

"The duration for concert is usually quite short, for about 2 hours and 15 minutes. But this last stop in Malaysia, it wouldn't be over doing it if we were to exceed the time limit a little, right? Ha!"

Eason's encores were always superb. He would sing to the audience's content. I look forward to his interactivity with us as well as him exceeding any silly time limit imposed on the concert. The past two concerts I went to, he sang for about three hours.

Come on, Eason, break your record in Malaysia!

Eason's Rare Finds

I have finally found out the magical appeal of Imeem.com. All thanks to the GREAT internet connection I have in my place now. Back in Desa, I'll have to wait for a couple of minutes just to play one song. Now, I can play any song, and have it played as if it's stored in my own iTunes.

Awesomeness! I have found some rare finds on Eason's songs. Well, not really that rare, but these are songs that I don't have yet. They are old songs of his, but new and fresh to my ears.

Check out this playlist (yes, I have finally figured out how to create my own playlist from the songs in Imeem):

Eason's Rare Finds (self-proclaimed so). An Eason fan? Hehe~ check out the playlist then.

A Love Story

I knew you were going to be there. My eyes searched above the crowd just so I could catch a tiny glimpse of you. Alas, the first sight of you set my heart aflutter, as a smile pulled at the corners of my lips. I have waited so long for this moment. This moment of pure adoration and love.

As I approached you, I find it impossible to pull my eyes from your face. Finally. I have never been so close before.

But as I stood before you, to my disappointment, you do not see me. Please, a look, a glance; I have waited too long to be simply brushed off by your nonchalance.

I wanted to call out your name. I wanted to do anything to capture your attention, even if it's just for the span of a moment. With trembling lips and the clenching of a fist for added courage, I let the sound of your name glide off my tongue. Clear. Precise. You couldn't have known how afraid I was of making a fool of myself.

You looked up. Finally, our eyes met. A surprised smile touched your lips and brighten your eyes. "Hi," you quipped. As if I were an old friend you haven't seen for a long time.

"Hi," I breathed. A jumbled bundle of emotion ranging from plain awe to stunned bewilderment all wrapped up in one of the shortest words in the English language.

We shook hands. Your grip was strong, the palm of your hand slightly rough. What should I say? I could sense the moment of our parting looming ahead. I have rehearsed so many different lines in my mind before. I could not and would not leave you without saying at least something more than just 'hi'.

"你要永远 enjoy 唱歌!" That came out. Just like how I meant it to be.

You smiled in appreciation. As if you truly took in this little wish I had for you.

"Thank you," you said.

No, thank you, for being the best there is and for giving me this memory.

Thus, my first ever real interaction with Eason Chan. =P

H3M

I have been cooped up in my room for the past three days. Serious! No human contact. The first thing I do every time I wake up was to on the computer and sat in front of it from afternoon till morning the next day. I love to say I was working. But. Hah. You know.

Anyway, desperately in need of getting out of my room, and wanting to get away from my lovely desktop, I went out to IOI mall. Do you know how many weekends it has been when I said I am going to get Eason Chan's new album and was deterred again and again? Gazillions!! It felt like it anyway..

I was at IOI. After dinner and walking aimlessly about by myself, I went into Speedy. Just to check. I went to two other shops previously and they all didn't have the album yet. WAAA!! I saw IT sitting without a care in the world on the rack. As if IT was just waiting for my arrival. I took IT in my hands. IT was real.

Apparently, there are two versions, imported and local. Local is cheaper by three bucks. Dank the auntie working there, she told there were coupons in the local album giving away free tickets to his autograph or music concert session in Malaysia. But a lot of people said the imported album had better sound quality. I asked if the imported album will have the coupons. She said yes~ Stupid me who doesn't even know a stitch about music went on and bought the imported album. Inside APA PUN TAK DA!! Aiya..... tzeyee!!! You go buy the local album la... inside got two coupons wan, then we can go together, yes?!

I listened to his whole album already. I fell for a couple of his songs, but needed time to fully absorb the rest of the album, especially the last few. Anyway, about the album design, haih... Eason Chan's album designs always failed to impress me. I liked his previous album's design which centered on illustrations. This time around, it was his signature B/W again. According to him, a lot of the budget was allocated for song production, so budget for things like design and promotion have to be cut. As a fan, I salute his passion and dedication to his work. As a designer, it's a bit sad that design was deemed as less important. But it was true. Songs must come first!

See my iTunes behind? Am ripping the CD already!

This is the center spread. I know. It's really just black like that. My photography lect would have called it under exposed.

Waaa~ look at him. So yeng~

This is the inside when you open up the digipak. A simple but stylish group photo.

Oh, I absolutely adore his fake mustache! Don't you think it's just SO Eason Chan? And his hair!

ps: it's 5.49am, i have a power point presentation that i need to put together for my group later in the day.. i still do not have any idea what we're supposed to present. u think it's ok if i sleep first and think later? yes? okay, if anything happens i'll say it's you.

Eason Chan Rules the Universe!!!!

Today was supposed to make my day. :(

My handphone rang at 11:30 am, and I saw the reminder I set in it from some time ago: "Moov Live".

On the 9th of March, Eason Chan held a mini concert where he sang all the songs from him upcoming album: Eason Chan and the H3M Band. Then on today, the site is going to release all the videos from that mini concert so that the fans get to hear all his new songs before the release of the album.

Happy happy la I go online. Then I saw the videos~ yippee! And then, rupa rupanya there were only two videos which are free to watch. The rest were only available if I signed up as a member. Which will not prove to be a problem apart from the fact that the registration was only open to Hongkies.

Crap la... but I did have a whole ten minutes of satisfaction just watching that two available videos. Do you know, I can fall for him all over again every single time I watch him sing live. Again and again. Over and over. Is it any wonder how I am completely and utterly besotted by Eason Chan, the best singer ever!!!!

His album is going to come out on 23 March 2009~ whoa!! But I wonder if it's going to be a worldwide release. I can't wait! I am willing to sacrifice my time just listening to his new songs and completely indulge in them. But then again, this is no sacrifice at all, yes?

Sweet. Just. Look. At. Him.

Really, and you wonder why I am crazy over him and only him?

Have you watched Leslie Cheung's "He's A Woman She's A Man", where he costarred with Anita Yuen? If you're interested, go Google the synopsis. The soundtrack of the movie was "追", meaning Chase. Leslie Cheung was the only celebrity whose death I still feel sad after all this time. It was when he sang that song in the movie that I first fell for him. This song evoked both feelings of bliss and sadness for me. Definitely my favourite song and movie by him.

追 Lyrics

George Leong

ps: this is the first time i embed a video in my post!!! hehe~
